472nd Signal Company Readies for another Deployment
The Lakewood Historical Society will again be supporting its Adopt-a-Company, the 472nd Signal Company, one of the units of the 4th Stryker Brigade of the 2nd Infantry Division at Joint Base Lewis McChord, who are deploying this week for nine months to Afghanistan.
The Society has kept up the community partnership since the 472nd's last deployment to Iraq in 2009. The unit has made significant contributions to the Historical Society by offering their invaluable assistance in our major fund-raising events for the last two years. Several members of the unit have visited the History Museum and attended our monthly programs. They will deploy under the leadership of their new commander, CPT Nicole Protz, native of Elgin, IL.
One of our major activities during their deployment is sending care packages. Sue Scott, Society Secretary, will coordinate gathering donations. You may contact her at 253-588-6354 or e-mail her at nonniesue@live.com, if you have questions about the program. attached is the list of items we are collecting. We plan to do our first mailing the first week of November. We will continue to collect items and send packages on a regular basis.
You may bring the items to our programs and activities or drop them off at the Lakewood History Museum, 6211 Mt Tacoma Dr SW, across from Columbia Bank during regular hours, Wed-Sat, 12 noon- 4 pm. We also welcome monetary donations for postage. The soldiers really appreciate receiving goodies and messages from the home front.
